Authentic. Coastal. Original.
The official home of the videos, music, stories, and apparel of 9aspen — based in Venice, Florida.
The 9aspen Story
The name 9aspen started back in Colorado, named after the nine aspen trees that surrounded our home. I originally launched my YouTube channel over sixteen years ago just as a hobby - a simple way to document life behind a lens and share interesting moments with family and friends. As life moved along, my wife and I relocated to Venice, Florida to begin a new chapter, bringing that same passion for storytelling to the saltwater of the Florida Gulf Coast.
Spending more time on the water gave the journey a whole new direction. From early runs out through the inlet aboard Cat Tales and solo fishing trips offshore, to quiet sandbars and visiting new ports, the water offered moments worth capturing every single day. Over time, 4K video and overhead drone footage evolved into writing original music, followed by publishing a companion book to the Gulf Coast Stories album to tell the real adventures behind each song. It remains an authentic creative outlet - something made for the enjoyment of the salt, the stories, and the water.
Cat Tales
Cat Tales is a 2022 World Cat 280DC-X. A 28-foot power catamaran with a 9'2" beam designed to handle everything from shallow coastal backwaters to solo runs 60 miles offshore. The dual-hull design provides exceptional stability in open-water chop, while 220 gallons of fuel capacity delivers the extended range and confidence needed for long days in the Gulf.
Powered by twin Yamaha F200 engines with digital electronic control, the boat is equipped with the Helm Master EX system - giving me complete joystick maneuverability when docking solo. Electronics feature a CL7 engine display and a Garmin GPSMAP 8612xsv paired with a Fantom 24x radar for offshore navigation and tracking weather.
When running solo that far out, safety gear isn't optional — EPIRB, PLBs, satellite texting, and Garmin's OnBoard Man Overboard system are all onboard.
